Last in Battle is a project I’ve been developing during the last years of university, with another ten classmates in the team. Our goal was to create a 3D cinematic to show a video game idea we invented some years ago. The tasks I've been involved in are storyboard, character and props design, environments, animation, set dressing and lighting.

Ledyan is one of our main characters, an archer. He is the bastard son of a queen who had no choice but to abandon him in the woods when he was a child, so the forest spirits would protect him against the royal guard. He was raised in nature, and now is the time for him to protect his new home from a strange phenomenon that is killing the forest.

 

For his design, we used organic elements (such as wood and leaves) but combined with some royalty details, represented by gold. Another material that we wanted to highlight was amber, as a source of power or as a representation of the forest spirits.

The final version was modeled by Luis Galindo and texturized by Celia Blázquez:

Yura is our other main character, an assassin. She was the bodyguard and lover of the Empress of an ancient empire. When her beloved died, Yura begged the ancestors to rest with the governess forever. In exchange, any member of the imperial family could bring her back from the world of the dead, in order to entrust her with a mission she had to fulfill if she wanted to return with the Empress.

For her design, we wanted a spectral look, like pale skin or elements that disintegrate such as her daggers or hair, for example. She was kind of a ninja, with something covering her mouth and tight clothes to highlight her feminine body.

The final design was made by Andrea Macarulla, the 3D model by Luis Galindo and the textures by Judit Navarro:

Our story takes place in a jungle, filled with large plants and curved trees that contrast with the straight lines of an ancient civilization's ruins. These are designed with different angular shapes, extrusions and inscriptions, and some of them even defy the laws of gravity.

A magical orb is the target of the characters, and is guarded in a temple which design was inspired by Egyptian and Mexican pyramids, although some details were taken from the Treasury of Petra, Jordania.
